Rice Pudding with Apple and Banana

One of the challenges I faced when weaning baby Prisha to regular/ cow’s milk was the taste. She didn’t acquire the flavor from day one, of course it will be wrong to assume that any baby would start drinking 500-600 ml of cow’s milk all of a sudden. She did have plenty of water and that kept her hydration levels up. However, it made me very worried that a one-year-old is not drinking enough milk. Prisha has acquired and accepted cow’s milk now but this puree sure helped me a lot during that phase. It is pretty much like preparing Payesh, it is creamier and thicker and hence you can easily feed your baby a whole cup of milk in just one or two meals. Try it and don’t forget to prepare some extra for yourself.

Ingredients:
  • Rice – 1 tablespoon, washed
  • Milk – 1 cup
  • Apple – ½ cut in cubes
  • Banana – ½ cut in cubes

Directions:
  • Heat the milk in a wide non stick pot.
  • Add the rice in it along with the apple and banana.
  • Bring to a boil then reduce heat and let the milk reduce.
  • Check after every 5-7 minutes, when the rice cooks completely and the milk has thickened to 1/3 cup, turn off the heat.
  • Let it cool completely then make the puree in your blender/ Nutri bullet.

Tip: You can also add some raisins or a pinch of cardamom powder for some flavor.
